If you are involved in tourism locally a series of interactive workshops hosted by Newry, Mourne and Down Council over the next week or so may be right up your street.

Two Visitor Experience Plans are being developed for the Mourne and Ring of Gullion Experience and the Mourne Coastal Experience, including Strangford Lough to Carlingford Lough and St Patrick.

The Visitor Experience Plans will play a critical role in creating ‘EPIC’ visitor experiences, adding to the overall destination and assisting businesses to deliver Experiential, Personalised, Iconic and Immersive, Creative ‘EPIC’ moments.

The plans will give local businesses an opportunity to work with agencies, Council officers and business operators to develop new experiences aligned with the destination’s underlying focus on ‘Mountains, Myths and Maritime’.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “The preparation of the Experience Development Plans will involve important decisions and developments which have the potential to make a positive contribution not only to tourism, but to the wider economic development in the District.”

Councillor Mulgrew continued, “Through attracting new markets, and increasing both dwell time and daily spend, these plans will assist in job creation and in spreading the benefits of tourism across the District, while at the same time recognising the need to protect the special environmental character of Newry, Mourne and Down.”

To promote further discussion, a series of interactive workshops are taking place throughout the District and tourism businesses are encouraged to attend one of these.
