With ex hurricane Ophelia reaching Ireland in the early hours of this morning bringing with it a potential risk to life, the NI Executive has advised all schools to close today and it appears that all primary, secondary schools and the SRC in Newry have taken the advice and have already announced their closure via Twitter and Facebook. If in doubt please consult the school’s social media channels. The Magnet Young Adult Centre will also be closed.

The Greencastle Greenore Ferry will not be sailing today with ferry Aisling Gabrielle sheltering at Carlingford Harbour.

Both Dunnes Stores in Newry will also be closed. Other disruptions will occur and it's advised to check conditions etc before making a journey.

These follow an amber weather warning issued locally for high winds and heavy rain, with the worst conditions expected between 3pm and 10pm although stormy conditions will occur from earlier in the day. A red weather warning is in place for the rest of Ireland.

Locally Meaneys Weather at www.facebook.com/MeaneyWeatherUpdates is a good place to get the latest updates on the ever evolving storm position.
