Shane O’Neill’s Ladies Senior Football Team are on their way to China later this month but before they head away Councillor Roisin Mulgrew, Chairperson, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council hosted a reception for them in the District Council Offices, Monaghan Row, Newry.

The team will spend two weeks in China from 29 December until 11 January.

The 26 players and 4 mentors, have been invited to visit China to demonstrate and coach Gaelic Football.  The trip is facilitated and funded through the Confucius, a branch of the Chinese Ministry of Education Institute, based in University of Ulster, Jordanstown.  This visit is classed as an academic and cultural exchange under the Study in China programme.

Wishing the team every success on the visit, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “This will be a historic and unique opportunity to promote sport and traditions. It also represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience and learn so much of this rich culture and fascinating country”.
