 Newry Olympic Ladies 0 Larne 2nds 3

On Saturday 11th March 2014, Newry Olympic Hockey Ladies 1st XI played Larne 2nds 1st XI Ladies at home in the Quarter final of the Intermediate Cup.

Both Newry Ladies and Larne Ladies started by holding a minute’s silence and lining up in order to pay their respects to Mr Dinsmore, a valued and very loyal supporter of Newry Olympic Hockey Club and who passed away earlier in the week.

Afterwards, Larne won the toss and decided to force NOHC to play into the sun. From the whistle, Larne 2nds were on the attack securing a corner within the first five minutes from which they scored and put Larne into a one nil lead.

Newry had a couple of chances with forwards driving up to the circle but were unable to get near the goal due to the impenetrable Larne defence, Larne who are in Junior 3, drove back out from their own half with some amazing 75 metre Arial balls which helped Larne forwards win three further corners. Newry fought hard in the circle and with a strong Newry defence kept Larne from scoring again during the first half.

At the beginning of the second half both teams came out strong with Newry being awarded three short corners after fifteen minutes of play but were unable to score due to the Larne 2nds keeper doing some fine saves. Larne 2nds battled back and sealed the match with two further goals making the final score Newry Olympic Ladies 0 Larne 2nds 3
