Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Mark Murnin hosted a Civic Reception in honour of Clonduff Camogie Team who won the All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship title for 2019. The event was held in the Canal Court Hotel in Newry on Friday 5 April.

Speaking at the event Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mark Murnin said, “I am truly delighted and honored to host this Civic Reception to recognize the amazing achievement of this team and their management on winning their first All-Ireland Camogie Title in the hallowed ground of Croke Park, Dublin on Sunday 3 March.  Winning an All-Ireland title is the stuff that dreams are made of and through the various media channels I was able to witness the explosion of joy when the final whistle blew on that historic day.”

He continued: “I have read interviews given by members of the Team where they describe looking up into the stands towards their supporters to see men, women and children in tears of joy – these same supporters who are often described as the sixteenth player in recognition of the motivation they bring to the Team.”

The County Down side Clonduff edged out Gailltir by 0-10 to 0-09 to win the All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie Club Championship title at Croke Park. It was a first All-Ireland success for the club as they saw off the challenge of their Waterford opponents.

The Chairman concluded the event by presenting each team member with an a specially engraved trophy to commemorate and acknowledge their coveted All-Ireland title win.
