Senior Men

It was a frustrating seven-point defeat for our senior men away to Wolfe Tones on Friday night, 1 – 13 to 1 – 6.

The first twenty-five minutes of the first-half was a very low scoring affair with the home side scoring four points, with the Shane’s recording just a single point courtesy of Kristian Magill. With the first-half entering the final minute Wolfe Tones registered a goal and a point to lead by seven at the break, 1 – 5 to 0 – 1.

The Shane’s came out for the second-half with the half-time team talk ringing in their ears and scored a goal and two points in the opening five minutes, the points coming from Mark McCabe and the goal being scored by Nathan Morgan who fired the ball low to the net. This left just two between the sides and they then swapped a point apiece with Ryan McCabe slotting over for the Shane’s to keep them right in the game however, the Tones then hit four points in a row to put them six to the good and all but seal their win. Points from Raymie Fitzpatrick and Ryan McCabe got the Shane’s back to within four but the home side kicked the last three scores to claim the win on a score-line of 1 – 13 to 1 – 6.

The lads return to action next Friday night at home to Clan na Gael and will be hoping to bounce back following this defeat.

Senior Ladies

Our senior ladies recorded a brilliant two-point away win over Lisummon on Wednesday night in what was a tough encounter. The Shane’s led by five at the break, 4 – 2 to 1 – 6 but midway through the second-half Lisummon had tied the game and with less than ten minutes they went one in front. However, the Shane’s girls dug deep and recorded a late goal and point to Lisummon’s one point to run out winners by two, 6 – 6 to 1 – 19.

U14 Girls

A fantastic performance from our U14 girls last Monday against Dromintee saw them qualify for the championship final. The Shane’s played with the wind advantage in the opening half and despite missing a number of scorable chances they went into the half-time break one point ahead, 1 – 7 to 2 – 3. The second-half was a real ding-dong battle with both sides serving up a great game of football but at the final whistle it was the Shane’s who had done enough, winning on a score-line of 4 – 13 to 3 – 12 to see them through to the final and a game against Crossmaglen. The final was scheduled to played on Sunday but owing to death in the Crossmaglen club it was postponed until a later date.

U12 Boys

The U12 boys are away to Culloville midweek for a league game before travelling to Ballyholland’s annual tournament next Saturday.

All-Ireland Féile

Excitement is building ahead of the All-Ireland Féile in Sligo at the end of the month. Our U14 boy’s amalgamation of Patrick Rankins are heading to the tournament and will be hosted by the Easky club. A lot of fundraising has been done over the past number of weeks and we would to like all those who organised the events and to everyone who contributed in any way – your support, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Annual U10 Blitz

Next Saturday sees the club host its annual U10 blitz and with over 20 teams taking part it promises to be a great day. It will also be a very busy day and a lot of help will be needed on the day - referees, scorekeepers, stewards etc. If anyone is available to help out on the day in any way please contact Seamie O’Hare on 07816 268077.

Fundraising Mud Run

Sunday afternoon saw over 30 people, young and old, wise and not wise take part in our fundraising Mud Run in Castlewellan. It was the perfect opportunity for all of the grown-ups to behave like youngsters again, splashing through the muck and gutters and getting mucked from head to toe. The club would like to thank everyone who took part on Sunday and to all those who helped to organise the event. The Rainbow Run which was scheduled to take place at the club on Sunday evening was postponed following the death of our honorary Vice-President Pat Byrne. It has been re-scheduled for Sunday, 23rd June but please keep an eye on social media for updates.

Cúl Camp

This year’s Kellogg’s Cúl Camp will take place at the club from Monday 15th July - Friday 19th July. Online registration for the camp is now open and anyone planning to attend should register online asap using the following link – www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie

Best Wishes

Everyone at the club would like to extend their best wishes to our U14 girls player Paige Connolly who took ill after the championship semi-final on Monday night. By all accounts Paige is on the mend and we hope to see her back in a Shane’s jersey soon.

The club would like to thank everyone who tended to Paige in Dromintee on Monday night, all your help and assistance is greatly appreciated.

Best wishes also to our underage footballer Tyler Fleming who is currently recovering from injuries suffered recently....get well soon young man.

Lotto

Last week’s winning lotto numbers were 3, 6, 26 & 31. There were no jackpot winners and 2 x match three winners. The lotto jackpot is slowly but surely creeping up and now stands at £3,800.

Condolences

Everyone at the club would like to offer their sincere sympathies to the family of our honorary Vice-President Pat Byrne who has passed away. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
