A Mullaghbawn mother has certainly her hands full! A mother to twins just seven months ago, the newly fledged businesswoman has started her own business offering Irish people the world over a chance to put a smile on their face and a cúpla focal on their chest.

SMIGSMIG (meaning chin-chin) has launched its range of funny, stylish t-shirts The cleverly-designed t-shirts are available to buy on www.smigsmig.com and include slogans Fleadh-ed Out, featuring traditional Irish musical instruments, and Teanga Bheo, meaning a living tongue.

Louise Smith (McCreesh) from Mullaghbawn in South Armagh, and Owner of new business SMIGSMIG, holds her seven-month-old twin girls, as she launched her new t-shirt business in Castlewellan last month.
Louise Smith (McCreesh) from Mullaghbawn in South Armagh, and Owner of new business SMIGSMIG, holds her seven-month-old twin girls, as she launched her new t-shirt business in Castlewellan last month.

Fun explanations of each slogan accompany the designs online, and smigsmig has already found a demand among US customers for its Slán a Bhalla t-shirt, which plays on the phrase ‘slán abhaile’ meaning ‘cheerio’ and features a certain American president peeking over a wall.   The range of designs has already proven very popular at the recent SOMA festiva in Castlewellanl as smigsmig recently brought its colourful offering to the physical marketplace.

Louise Smith (McCreesh), determined to keep her mind active while cocooned in the couch breastfeeding her twin girls, ditched Netflix for YouTube and got clued up on how to start her own print-on-demand t-shirt business from home.  While her baby girls slept or fed, Louise used whichever hand was free to reach for the laptop, design t-shirts and develop an e-commerce site to access a global market of Irish people at home and abroad.

“After months of manic multi-tasking, I’m delighted to launch our tees among musicians and makers here at SOMA festival,” said Louise Smith (McCreesh), Owner of SMIGSMIG.  “As Drogheda prepares for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in August, some of our slogans such as Faoi Lán Cheoil, meaning Alive with Music and Fleadh-ed to the Mat are well-suited for the occasion.

Puntastic tees selling Fleadh-ed Out

Customers chose happily from the range of designs, with some musicians proudly wearing their new tees on stage. John McSherry, world-renowned uilleann piper, whistle-player and composer is co-founder of the musical trio The Ollam, along with Detroit natives Tyler Duncan and Michael Shimmin. The boys were happy to get kitted out in their smigsmig tees.

“Saying as we’re either fleadh-ed out or fleadh-ed to the mat most of the time, the slogans suit us down to the ground!” said John McSherry. “The designs are really clever so wearing a smigsmig tee is a fresh way to show you're proud to be Irish.”

Bringing funny Irish T Shirts to the international market

County Armagh woman Louise Smith’s twin girls inspired her to start a family business, and she now combines two of her passions, wordplay and the Irish language.  Adding to her range on a regular basis, Louise’s latest design is Póg mo Shrón, meaning Kiss My Nose and features an elephant with a very long trunk.  The fun, fresh and colourful range of t-shirts is made available to the international market through www.smigsmig.com with global shipping available to over 40 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and most European Countries.

Smigsmig.com offers bespoke designs in addition to her online range, giving Irish people at home and abroad the opportunity to choose style with a smile.

Do dhaoine nach bhfuil Gaeilge líofa acu, téann cuir síos snasta spraíúil le gach dearadh ar an suíomh, agus tá éileamh á thaispeáint cheana féin sna Stáit Aontaithe don dearadh Slán a Bhalla, a dhéanann imeartas focal leis an fhrása ‘slán a bhaile’ le híomhá d’uachtarán clúiteach taobh thiar de bhalla beag.  Bhí an-rachairt ar na t-léinte a díoladh go gasta ag Féile SOMA nuair a thug smigsmig a réimse earraí daite chuig an mhargadh fisiciúil den chéad uair.

Bhí rún daingean ag Louise Smith (McCreesh) a hintinn a choinneáil aibí nuair a bhí sí gafa ar an tolg ag cothú cúpla.  D’fhág sí Netflix do YouTube chun taighde a dhéanamh ar an dóigh is fearr lena comhlacht t-léine ‘cló-ar-éileamh’ a thoiseacht ón bhaile.  Nuair a bhí an bheirt chailín ina gcodladh nó ag cothú, d’úsáid Louise cibé lámh a bhí saor lena ríomhaire glúine a aimsiú, t-léinte a dhearadh agus suíomh r-thráchtála a fhorbairt sa dóigh is go dtiocfadh léi nasc a dhéanamh le margadh na nGael sa bhaile agus thar lear.

“I ndiaidh míonna d’iltascáil chraiceáilte, tá mé an-sásta na t-léinte s’againne a sheoladh i measc cheoltóirí agus dhéantóirí anseo ag Féile SOMA,” a deir Louise Smith (McCreesh), Úinéir SMIGSMIG.   De réir mar atá muintir Chaisleán Uidhlinn ag ullmhú d’Fhleadh Uladh agus d’Fhleadh Cheoil na hÉireann i mí Lúnasa, tá cuid mhaith dár manaí iontach oiriúnach, a léithéid Faoi lán Cheoil agus Fleadh-ed to the Mat ach go háirithe.

T-léinte cliste á ndíol go gasta

Roghnaigh na custaiméirí ón réimse dearaí, le cuid de na ceoltóirí féin ag caitheamh t-léinte smigsmig ar an ardán.  Bhí John McSherry, ceoltóir agus cumadóir a bhfuil cáil dhomhanda air ag seinm san fhéile lena ghrúpa ceoil The Ollam. Bhí sé féin agus na leaids ó Detroit lán-sásta lena léinte smigsmig.

.  “Dá thairbhe go mbímidinne fleadh-ed out nó fleadh-ed to the mat an chuid is mó den am, foireann na manaí seo go maith dúinne!” a dúirt John McSherry, “Tá na dearaí féin iontach cliste, tugann na t-léinte smigsmig deis iontach do na Gaeil a gcuid féiniúlachta a léiriú le bród.”

Suíomh r-trádála lán le léinte greannmhara Gaelacha don mhargadh idirnáisiúnta

Bean Ard Mhacha is ea í Louise Smith (McCreesh), as an Mhullach Bán i ndeisceart an Chontae.  Spreag a beirt chailín í gnólacht teaghlaigh a thoiseacht agus anois nascann sí dhá phaisean atá aici, imeartas focal agus an Ghaeilge.  Cuireann sí leis an réimse léinte go rialta, agus is é an dearadh is déanaí ná Póg mo Shrón, t-léine le híomhá eilifinte le tiúchosach deas  fada uirthi.  Tá na dearaí dathanacha spraíúla ar fáil don mhargadh domhanda ar www.smigsmig.com le níos mó ná 40 tír ábálta t-léínte a chur in áirithe, na Stáit Aontaite, Ceanada, an Astráil, Nua-Shéalainn agus cuid mhaith tíortha Eorpacha ina measc.

Déanann smigsmig dearaí saincheaptha fosta, ag tabhairt deise do Ghaeil sa bhaile agus thar lear t-léine Gaelach a chaitheamh le stíl agus le spraoi.
