Carnagat Community Association held their Annual General Meeting last week where they showcased their achievements and elected a new committee. James Treanor was elected as Chairperson replacing outgoing Chairperson Paula McGuigan.

The Carnagat Community Association is a group of residents who live in the Carnagat Area and act as a representative voice for all the residents of the Greater Carnagat Area. They run a number of activities, trips and events throughout the year and represent the residents of Carnagat at meetings concerning the area and its development. The community association is based at the Carnagat Community House, Parkhead Crescent.

Most of the committee members who were elected on the night served on the committee last year and due to the success of the community association last year they were re-elected for another term.

On the night the outgoing Chairperson Paula McGuigan remarked that if re-elected she would not put herself forward for another year as Chairperson of the community association as she feels it’s important that the committee keep challenging themselves to be the best that they can be.

A spokesperson for the committee said that Paula has been the driving force behind the association over the past 5 years and although she will remain on the committee in a different capacity it will be difficult for us to see her in any other role. Paula's enthusiasm, hardworking nature and wit have been the contributing factors to our success as she has been our motivation for over the past 5 years.

Cllr Michael Savage was in attendance and remarked that Carnagat CA is one of the most vibrant groups we have in this city, that they are one of the most dynamic groups, professional groups and that no one is left out, everyone is catered for.

Also in attendance was Helena Young, Alliance party candidate who praised the community association saying that Carnagat has always held a special place in her heart being a former resident herself, that she always sings the praises of the community association everywhere she goes for the work that is carried out in the community and that she doesn’t think there is another group in the whole of the district that does as much as Carnagat CA.

The new committee held their first meeting to elect their new officer board for the day to day running of the organisation. This officer board includes a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Vice Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Treasurers, Public Relations Officer and Designated Child Protection Officers.
