The death in Bessbrook yesterday of Aidan McCabe is no longer being treated as murder by police.

Mr McCabe's body was discovered in a property in the Acorn Hill area of Bessbrook yesterday morning (Wednesday 13 March).

After Post Mortem results police have confirmed that his death is no longer being treated as murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan said: "Six people - including three women, one aged 39 and two aged 22, and three men aged 41, 43 and 52 - that were arrested yesterday by detectives investigating the death have been released unconditionally.

"The 39 year old woman was then re- arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She has been released on bail pending further enquiries."

Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty MLA has expressed his deep sadness at the tragic death.

Mr McNulty said, ‘Mr McCabe was well known and well liked in the local community.  His tragic death has come as a great shock to everyone in the local area.  It is particularly difficult for his family circle who have suffered horrendous loss in tragic circumstances over recent years.’

‘My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad and difficult time.’

Cllr David Taylor added "This tragic death will come as a great shock to the local community and my thoughts and prayers are with the man’s family at this extremely difficult time as they mourn the loss of their loved one."
