Armagh's Stephen Harold gets the ball against Laois in Portlaoise. Photograph: Columba O'HareIt wasn't the best start to the Allianz National Football League last night with Down losing out to Tyrone at Pairc Esler in Division One and Armagh falling to Laois at Portlaoise in Division 2!

Down got of to a good start against Tyrone but only managed to go in at half time with a two point lead 0:7 to 0:5. Tyrone were on the comeback trail in the second half and after a goal apiece mid way through the second half woth Down's Donal O'Hare fisting the ball to the back of the net, it was 1:8 each but that was where it ended for Down with Tyrone managing to add three more points emerging victorious.

Final Score Down 1:8, Tyrone 1:11.

At Portlaoise the story was the same but just a little worse with Armagh getting of to the better start but apart from the early stages of the game and the period immediately after

Brian Mallon sent the ball ripping to the back of the net midway through the second half it never looked like Armagh's night.

Wides were the story of the game but ultimately Laois got away with their poor shooting and Armagh didn't have enough scores in the bag to do so. Final score Armagh 1:10, Laois 0:20
