Two sisters from Warrenpoint are set to represent Co. Down on the national stage this Sunday, 1 March, as the TG4 series Réalta Agus Gaolta reaches its grand finale at 7.30pm.
Holly and Cliodhna Tinnelly have been making music together for years regularly performing in pubs and hotels for locals and tourists alike. Cliodhna, 21, is a talented fiddle player, while 15-year-old Holly has impressed with her guitar skills throughout the competition. Now they have the chance to go one step further and be crowned champions.
The Warrenpoint sisters are up against six other acts in what promises to be a cracking final. After seven weeks of competition, the remaining families will take to the stage one last time to battle it out for the title. Viewers have already been treated to everything from Metallica covers to samba dancing, hip-hop routines to soulful renditions of The Fields of Athenry, and the finale looks set to deliver more of the same.
The other acts in Sunday's final include classical music quartet the Mantu family, Romanian-born parents Andreea and Adrian who met at a school for musically gifted students in Bucharest and are now joined by their daughters Clara and Sofia, performing cello and viola in Oughterard, Galway. Tango dancers Stefano Pappalardo and Perla Farrera, originally from Sicily and Mexico respectively and now living in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, will hope their chemistry on the dancefloor carries them to the top. Married couple Audrey Marian Fay and Eanna Duffy from Skerries, Co. Dublin bring the rock and roll, while teenage siblings Raghnaid, Bronagh and Tadhg Ó Gríofa from traditional music heartland Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, will be hoping to do their hometown proud. Acrobats Gavin Kaar and Jennifer Sheridan from Ashford, Co. Wicklow return to put the judges on the edge of their seats once again, and wildcard act the Nolan family, twins Polly and Lila alongside younger brother Rian from Mountrath, Co. Laois, round out the final seven with a lively trad set.
The series is presented by Síomha Ní Ruairc with judges Sinéad Ní Uallacháin and Irial Ó Ceallaigh, who are joined each week by a guest judge from the world of showbiz. This Sunday's guest judge seat is filled by Jedward, who certainly know a thing or two about performing with family.
It all comes down to Sunday night. Réalta Agus Gaolta, the series finale, airs on Sunday, 1 March at 7.30pm on TG4.
