St John Bosco Seniors

The seniors warmed up for their championship quarter final with the last home game of the season against Saul. The Saul men needed points to avoid relegation and showed they were eager for the battle by arriving 2 hours before throw in. However it was our lads who got off to the best start. Paddy Magill and Decky Byrne sent over the black spot and Neil Tumilty found the net after a good move. Saul to their credit fought back and scoring see -sawed to half time with tumilty's goal the difference. Highlight of the first half a massive point from the boot of Bosco captain Ciaran Murtagh! HT Bosco 1.5 Saul 0.5

Lee Ruddy opened the scoring in the second half with a fine point and the Bosco men wasted a few opportunities to kill off the game. However they eventually found their stride and eased into a good lead before Saul somehow found the net from a 14 yard free with half the Bosco team on the line. However the home team recovered well and two excellent Gavin Moan points killed off any revival.

A decent performance but wouldn't be good enough to win a quarter final. Improvement needed but no doubt this young team have the ability and commitment to step up to the required level.

St John Bosco U14s

Bosco 1-06  Ballyholland 4-17

Bosco boys played Ballyholland on their home turf on Monday last in the under 14 B semi-final.  Unfortunately the boys didn't bring their 'A' game with them for this match.  In truth both teams took a while to settle and the game was even enough in the first quarter.  Rory Mc Parland opened the scoring for Bosco but scores were hard to come by in this period.  Bally Holland soon levelled and took the lead with a soft goal but in fairness to Bosco they kept plugging away.  Indeed but for some poor finishing things would have been tighter at half time.  Bosco 0-4  Ballyholland 2-06.

The fast start needed in the second half didn't materialize and Ballyholland extended their lead with a further two goals.  Bosco rallied with a goal of their own through Ryan Mc Aleavey  but a tiring side couldn't kick on to close the gap.  Rory Mc Parland continued to play captains role, working tirelessly to make things happen as did Ruairi Lavery in attack.  Alas it just wasn't our night.  Indeed but for goalkeeper Ronan Haughey the gap might have been greater.  This young side however have had a very good year,  without doubt the future is bright for this team.  So ends the competitive season for this team.  Training and challenge games will continue so I would urge all the boys to keep at their football.
