Thomas Davis Corrinshego 0-14  - St. Patrick’s  Cullyhanna 2-5

Thomas Davis continued in their winnings ways with  a fine win over a   very competitive Cullyhanna outfit, in the St. Colman’s playing facilities on Friday evening. The game was only a minute old when St Pats hit the top corner of the Corrinshego goal for a three point lead.  Cullyhanna won the responding kickout and shot a wide. Things looked ominous for the West Newry men and a hammering looked a distinct possibility, but the men in maroon didn’t panic and Liam Quinn added a point after 2minutes. This was quickly followed by a fine D. Hughes point on 4minutes. Hughes added another point on 6minutes from a free.  Thomas Davis now had the momentum and by the 9th minute Cathal Trainor had put them in the lead 0-4 to 1-0. St Pat’s responded with  a point  only for D. Hughes on 20mins equalising. The first half finished with a further St. Pat’s point to lead 1-3 – 0-5.

The second half started with determination and purpose from the West Newry men with L. Quinn pointing a free after Jordan King was upended. Two further pointed by C. Trainor strengthened the lead and by the 44minute  D. Hughes extended the lead further. Both sides swapped points with Corrinshego scoring through J. King after being set up  with a Ryan McWilliams hand-pass and then D. Hughes to leave the score 0-10 to 1-5. On the  50minute Thomas Davis were awarded a penalty and D. Hughes  placed the ball over the bar to stretch the lead further.  Lee Courtney was introduced as a sub on the 53minute for his first senior start in the Thomas Davis colours. Cullyhanna  added a goal from a  penalty and as the game  came to the conclusion David Murphy  added an insurance point for an 0-14 to 2-5 win. This was  our second win on the row and Corrinshego’s fourth win of the campaign.  Overall each and every player played their part in this hard earned win.

Forkhill v Thomas Davis

Thomas Davis Under 8’s returned to league action away at Forkhill last Wednesday night with 2 games against Forkhill A & Forkhill B. The first game was an even enough affair with both sides finding their feet. Our midfield duo of Shae Gray & Calum Bradley paved the way for the Thomas Davis squad with some excellent plays & scores showing great skill & determination throughout. In the forwards Thomas McCabe, Toni Fallone, Dylan Gray & Nela Lesniak all gained vital possession. In defence Rudi Fallone, Martin McKinley, Conall Havern & Shay Mallon all put in a shift to ensure we gained a share of the spoils.

After a hard earned break, we re-jigged the squad to play Forkhill B, the lessons from the previous game all stood to our lads as they hit some nice scores showing all the skills of the game, Ryan Bryne hit his first score with Comhghall Quinn & Katie O’Brien all working to ensure once again we gained a share of the spoils.

Forkhill  v Thomas Davis

The young footballers of Thomas Davis gave a  very good account in a battling and rather physical encounter. The game ebbed and flowed with some fantastic performances, most notably  Siobhan McKinley, Caoimhe Mallon and Adam Travers. In fact this was probably the best game ever played by young Siobhan in a maroon jersey. Others who impressed were Eoghan Lenagh  who gets better with each game and did very well in the second half when he replace Emmettt  Dowdall in goals. Emmett Dowdall, Ciaran Higgins and  Michael Mallon scored some good points and Gio Fallone making  his competitive debut for Corrinshego  had a fine catch in the second half. Danny Shields made some good runs into the heart of the Forkhill defence. Shaun Collins played a captain’s part by organising the full back line when under pressure. When moved to midfield in the second half C. Mackey played with great heart and conviction.

Thomas Davis: Emmett Dowdall, Siobhan McKinley, Caitlin Mackey, Eoghan Lenagh, Shaun Collins, Adam Travers, Danny Shields, Liam O’Brien, Gio  Fallone, Michael Mallon, Caoimhe Mallon, Cara Meagher, Molly McKevitt. Caitlinn Mackey, Brian Quinn

Clann Na Gael2-11 - Doire Mor Gaels3-10

The minor team took the field for a division 2 play off against Lurgan power house Clann Na Gael. Missing two key players in Conor Loye and Caolan Flanagan These young troops started the game poorly allowing the opposition to storm into 0-09 to 0-01 lead with only 20 minutes played. However coach Hankin made the brave decision to sacrifice Midfielder Lee Courtney to full back to stop gap further widening, this proved a turning point. 2 well worked points just before halftime left the deficit to 6 points. A rallying call was made at halftime and what happened can only be described as good old fashioned team work and heart. Countless dirty ball, turnovers and simple scores the boys raced into a 4 point lead. With the the opposition full forward completely subdued our boys seemed to be in total control but for the highlight reel Declan Loye seemed to rise like a salmon catch the ball, dummy his man and goalkeeper before calmly placing ball into the bottom corner. It would be grossly unfair to single out a individual performance because these young men put in a stunning 2nd half performance winning 3-10 to 2-11.
