Portadown 2 Newry 3

Newry traveled to Portadown on Saturday for their penultimate game before the league split. The visitors needed a win to keep their chances of making the top half split. It was a wet and wild day which hampered the play at times however both sides were going all out for the win. Newry had a couple of early chances with Keith McWilliams slimming the post his an effort and a snap shot from Kris Fletcher going narrowly wide. Portadown's best chance was thwarted by Matty Russell who deflected the ball off the line from a short corner on the reverse side.

In the second half Newry took an early lead with Keith McWilliams finishing from a short corner. However the lead was short lived as the home side equalised from a short corner of the own when Greer could only deflect the ball into his own net.

Both sides were battling to get the next goal which finally fell to Newry with Neil McKnight applying the finishing touches to a goal mouth scramble. Again Portadown fought back and got back on level terms with a tap in at the back post. With only 5 minutes remaining Newry got a third when Kris Fletcher rocketed home a low strike from a short corner. Newry held out to come away with all 3 points.
