Newry is to get it's first tennis bubble with £190K being made available in funding. The dome like structure will sit over two of the tennis courts at Our Lady's Grammar School, Chequer Hill.  With the weatherproof nature of the dome pupils and visitors will be able to play tennis in all weathers.

Newry, Mourne and Down Council has agreed to fund £100K for the project while the Department of Communies 'Your School Your Club' have also offered £90K.

The project will see two of the four present tennis courts covered with the other two upgraded.

The timeframe to draw down funding means that the work must be completed by end of March 2019.

Originally £50K was to be spent on bubbles at Newry and Newcastle Tennis Courts but site specific issues meant this didn't happen so the council proposed to re-align the spend.
