Five people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the body of a man in Bessbrook this morning, 13 March.

The man aged in his 30's was discovered in a property in the Acorn Hill area of the village.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan said: “Police received a report shortly after 10.15am this morning.  A post mortem examination will take place in due course to determine the cause of death.  Five people, two males aged 41 and 43, and three females, two aged 22 and one aged 39, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area of Acorn Hill last night or early this morning and who witnessed anything or anyone with any information that can assist with my investigation to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference 346 13/03/19."

Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous.

Slieve Gullion Councillor, Roisin Mulgrew has spoke of the deep shock at the news.

“This is terrible news. The Police are currently carrying out investigations to the circumstances of this well known young mans  death, and anyone who may be able to help those investigations should do so”

The local Councillor added,“This is dreadful news for the family of the young man.They are very well respected throughout this area and at this tragic time we offer them our support and prayers.
