The sheer size of the Albert Basin area would make an ideal park!
The sheer size of the Albert Basin area would make an ideal park!

Newry 2020 the visionary group that is campaigning for a better future for all in Newry created the poll to highlight the possibility of a beautiful central park in the city and engage debate among the people of Newry.

The group want to Prevent The Albert Dock/Middlebank area being sold off and lost forever thus saving the area for the long-term benefit of all the people of the Newry area.

Of the 1000 plus signatories many have added their reasons why the campaign is important.

Collette from Rostrevor said “Because im always in newry and there is no where to take my child to play”

Martin added “Newry needs something like this, a shared space where people can go, meet, walk around, jog. Also an alternative for the 'other half' and kids while shopping.”

Laura “As a mother of three young boys i find it unacceptable that i have to travel to Kilbroney or Slieve Gullion to take my children for a decent outdoor play experience.”

and Roisin “I moved here 10 years from Liverpool with my mum who is from this area. I love living here and adore living among some of the most amazing scenery in Northern Ireland . I think Newry city centre is a lovely place to shop , a good mix of restaurants pubs and cultural events going on thought the year . The one vital thing it is missing grass and wonderful it would be to stroll through a park ....have picnics with our kids ......have a duck pond to feed the ducks ,swings , a coffee shop and ice cream stand ...........Give Newry a beautiful park deserves it !!!!”
