Shane O’Neills GAC in Camlough will be the place to be this weekend when they bring back our ancient games once again as part of the South Armagh Games and Legends Festival.

The festival is part of the St Patrick’s Festival and runs this Sunday 5 March from 1-5pm.

Inspired by the ancient Tailteann Games, which were founded, according to the Book of Invasions by Lugh Lamhfhad, the Ollamh Erenn (master craftsman or doctor of the sciences), as a mourning ceremony for the death of his foster mother Tailtiu. The games consisted of honouring the dead, proclaiming laws, and funeral games and festivities to entertain.

This event will be interactive re-enactments of ancient sports, traditions and music from across Ireland and other cultures. It will draw upon Celtic myths and legends associated with the local area and beyond.

The event will offer opportunities for all the family to participate in a fun day out.

Creative group Unit T will help you make your own unique Celtic designs wooden pendants, pebbles and a Celtic knot from strawberry & apple laces!

The event will conclude with a medieval banquet to celebrate the event victors.
