Newry, Mourne and Down District Council have announced some changes to their bin collection days over the Christmas holidays and they are also encouraging you to Recycle over the Festive Season.

The Council try to maintain collections during the festive holidays, however there will be alternative collections this year if your bins are due to be lifted on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Recycle your waste this Christmas

If your bin is usually collected on a Friday, which this week is Christmas day, it will now be collected on Sunday 27 December (Newry and Mourne) and on Monday 28 December (Down) and the following week, which is New Year's Day, will be collected on Saturday 2 January 2016 (all areas).

We are recycling more at home than ever before, and the great news is, the recycling rate for Newry, Mourne and Down Council now stands at 42% (April- Sept 2015).

Council Chairperson, Cllr Naomi Bailie encouraged all residents to continue recycling over the festive holidays and said, ‘With such a vast amount of materials that can now be recycled, Christmas is the perfect time to make full use of your blue and brown recycling bins. Congratulations and thanks to all those who have participated in the recycling campaign over the last year. Let’s continue the good work for 2016."
