Newry and Armagh MP Mickey Brady has called on DRD minister Danny Kennedy to deal with the increasing number of roads within the district that are becoming impassable due to pot holes.

Speaking about the issue Mr Brady said “Driving around the Newry and south Armagh areas is becoming more and more dangerous because of the state of the roads and the Minister needs to take responsibility for this.

“You only have to walk around the local estates to come across a road in need of repairs. If this problem is not addressed soon then it will only get worse and before you know it patching the roads will be insufficient and they’ll need to be fully re-tarred.

“Not only are these holes making the roads dangerous to drive on but they are also causing damage to the cars of motorists who do brave them.

“Motorists now have to replace tyres and suspension parts due to the sheer depth of the holes that are appearing all over the area. My colleague Megan Fearon MLA and I have recently met with Danny Kennedy to highlight this problem and I am interested to see what action is to be taken to deal with this.

Mr Brady finished by saying “This problem is going to get much worse when the cold weather and frost arrives, which will exacerbate the situation further so it is imperative that Minister Kennedy deals with this issue as a matter of urgency.”
