With the recent arrival of new Brown Bin services for the area Newry, Mourne and Down Council has apologised for any disruption in the refuse collection service during the present bedding in period.

Due to Food Waste Regulations restricting food waste to landfill, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has had to implement a domestic food waste collection service across the whole district.

This has resulted in the delivery of 27,500 brown bins (140L) to householders who have not received this service in the past, mainly in the rural areas. Due to the high level of demand for brown bins in Northern Ireland we have experienced difficulty in the supply and delivery of bins which has caused some delays in distribution.

The council planned to have all brown/food bins for the 27,500 households delivered by today. If you have not received your brown bin at this stage you can contact them at or 0300 013 2233

A spokesperson commented "As with any new service of this magnitude, we have been experiencing issues in the collection of bins during the present bedding in period. We anticipate normal scheduled services will recommence week beginning 22 May.

"Newry, Mourne and Down District Council apologises for the disruption in refuse services."
