Slieve Gullion area Councillor Mickey Larkin has appealed for people to work at ‘leaving no trace’ of their visits to woods or walkways.

The Councillor also expressed his dismay at the amount of bottles and rubbish left by a group  at the community wood behind the Pastoral Centre in Jonesborough.

Cllr Mickey Larkin is asking people to take their rubbish home with them!

Cllr Larkin said “During this pandemic in particular our woods and walkways have served us all ensuring that many can get outside, fresh air and exercise in safety and adherence to current Covid legislation.

I was dismayed to learn that bottles, food packaging and clothing were left behind by what appears to have been a group partying in the community wood behind Jonesborough Pastoral Centre”.

The local elected representative continued “This wood is used by many locals including the Naíscoil for outdoor activities and recreation. It is a peaceful oasis, a safe environment  and a beautiful community  asset which should be respected and preserved. I would encourage anyone visiting the wood to continue to adhere to social distancing and to take their litter home with them”.

Concluding the Councillor said “Think of those coming behind you to visit. Have pride in your community and most importantly 'Leave No Trace'.
