Work has started on the provision of a disabled parking bay at a Newry playpark following approaches made by residents to Newry City Councillor Michael Savage.

Cllr Michael Savage.

Cllr Savage has confirmed that after being approached by concerned parents about the need for a disabled parking bay at the new Loanda Play Park he has discussed the matter with Council officials and work has subsequently commenced on installing the new disabled parking bay with officials putting plans in place yesterday.

Welcoming the outcome Cllr Savage said “This bay is needed by parents of children with disabilities who just love our new play facility but have struggled to access it due to being unable to park close enough to it. I would ask those attending the Play Park when the new bay is installed to respect it and only park in it if they have a Blue Badge and enjoy the new Play Park. I along with my SDLP colleagues will continue to fight hard for first class accessible play facilities for our entire community.”
