Having closed the cafe on 16 March due to the Covid-19 crisis, Finegan and Son in Newry for the most part has stayed closed, offering pre order handmade doughnuts a few days a week.

But that’s about to change as the team are bringing their popular Meetings to your home.  Meet and Eat @ home, will give the Finegan and Son regulars a taste of the popular tasting menu in the comfort of their own home.

As always with the food menu in Finegan and Son, seasonality and locality is key.  Sourcing products direct from farmers in the Louth, Down and Armagh areas.

“Getting great produce is something we have been so lucky to achieve, we have established great relationships with our vegetable growers, our farmers, and this means we can get some of the best ingredients to use on our dishes.” Said Kallium Coffey, head chef at Finegan and Son.

A few days before the menu will be prepared, the kitchen team will dig spuds from Ballymakenny farm in Drogheda, amazing varieties such as Violetta and Pink fir Apple,  cut garlic scapes from Drummond House.

All meat comes from the surrounding area, using the expertise of local award winning butcher William Baird, who rears his own cattle in Lockbrickland.  And some of the most amazing fish landed in Kilkeel will sure to feature on upcoming Meat @ Home menus.

“We won’t be able to completely re-create the Meeting atmosphere in peoples homes, our tasting menus aren’t about sitting in a stuffy dining room, it’s noisy, it’s informative and its fun.” Said Graeme Finegan, “ but we will try, Kallium will give instructions on how each dish on the menu should be finished off, and if the customers follow these simple instructions, their food that evening will be restaurant quality no doubt.”

The menu will consist of 3/4 courses, along with some extra treats and surprises, they are available to pre-order at WWW.FINEGANANDSON.COM for collection on Saturday 20 June.

Graeme concluded “Until such time as we can viably open our doors and serve our customers in our tasting menu environment, this is the next best thing, our customers have requested it and who are we to get in the way of their desires.”
