Newry, Mourne and Down District Council have launched their ‘Taste Junction’ campaign at Newry Market to coincide with Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink 2016.

‘Taste Junction’ will showcase the fantastic food and drink products that are available throughout the district with a number of events such as food tours, twilight markets, beer festivals and special menus.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Micky Ruane said, “The key to maximising and raising awareness of the quality and diverse food and drink our district has to offer will be through Council and the industry working together. We have renowned seafood, meat, baking, and drinks offerings and 2016 provides the opportunity to raise their profile.”

The Council will be delivering a range of initiatives throughout 2016 and beyond and will collaborate with a host of organisations, such as Newry Business Improvement District (BID), who will be involved in key events to celebrate food and drink in Newry City.

Newry BID Chairperson, Christine McElvanna said, “The NI Year of Food & Drink 2016 is a perfect opportunity for Newry BID to help showcase the fantastic food and drink offering and wide range of local, fresh produce available in the city of Newry. We are keen to encourage businesses and the wider community to support our local suppliers and the food & drink industry throughout the year. We will be marking the occasion with a series of promotional events which we hope will appeal to everyone.’’
