Plans are underway for a lower Hill Street revitalising project in Newry following the identification of £250K from the Department For Communities. Newry, Mourne and Down Council will have to match fund the project with £25K. The project approved subject to ratification at last weeks Enterprise, Regeneration and Tourism meeting along with a similar one for Downpatrick. It follows on from recent Public Realm work on the street.

Proposing approval of the project Newry City Councillor, Cllr Gary Stokes said "Happy to propose. just to congratulate everyone involved in the recent work that was completed on Hill Street, that phase, everyone from the Council end. The place looks really well, good feedback on it"

A steering group made up of Councillors and local business representatives will deliver the project and it is thought that works would include shop front improvement schemes, market development, promotional activities and measures to address dereliction in the area.

The funding has to be spent by 31 March 2022.
