Roisin’s bin was filled with all the correct blue bin materials and she believes the secret to her success is an internal recycling station. She said, “We have a small blue bin inside the kitchen, it has the blue bin sticker on it and the whole family know that it’s for recycling. It did take a little bit of organising to start but now the whole process runs like clockwork. We try to recycle as much as possible, not just using the blue bin, but also taking our clothes to the charity shop and larger items to the Household Recycling Centre.”

Chair Naomi Ballie said “It is very important to use your blue recycling bin to help reduce the amount going to landfill. I encourage everyone in the Newry, Mourne and Down area to take the recycling challenge and see if they can recycle more and possibly become the next Recycler of the Month.

The recycling officer checked bins in Mayobridge and found that most of the bins contained the correct materials however some residents are still placing incorrect materials in their bin. These materials included food waste, tissue, polystyrene food trays and plastic wrapping. These items CAN’T be recycled in the blue bin
