The SDLP team at the Albert Basin.

Following last Saturday's public rally in support of the Albert Basin Park a local MLA has said that ‘the people of Newry must be listened to.

Speaking after the rally Newry & Armagh MLA, Justin McNulty commented "I was delighted to attend today’s rally alongside my SDLP colleagues. It was brilliant to see such a large and enthusiastic crowd in attendance, and I want to pay particular tribute to Sticky Fingers Newry, who did such a great job of bringing a real carnival atmosphere to the day with dancing witches, face painting and costumes.

"What we saw at the rally were families from across the town speaking up and demanding more for their community. The people of Newry have made their voice heard loud and clear. Those of us who are serious about delivering the Park want to get on with what the people have demanded: a 15-acre park at the Albert Basin and fast.

The MLA concluded "The SDLP got the Park on council’s agenda in the first place, and we’ve driven it through every stage of consideration since. We in the SDLP will work with anyone who wants to drive the Park forward and we won’t rest until the Albert Basin Park is delivered – it’s what the people of Newry want, and we will make sure it is exactly what they get."

If the council want new premises they can go to the Carnbane industrial site. It's an administration hub not a walk in centre.

The people can see through this crap. For way too many years, you lot ( and the other mob) have been pulling the wool over people’s eyes, no more! The people have had enough, the people deserve much better representation,  the people will not be denied, not this time!

Bit rich and hypocritical coming from one of the 2 parties that are continuously frustrating the building of the park..he has had 4 years to help push and support the park but not one word until he seen the crowd that turned out on Saturday..hypocrisy of the highest order

Not much use having a park at the Albert Basin if boats won't be able to enter and leave the Canal due to a fixed bridge.

Really? Then tell your whip on NMDDC to support the park now and not stifle engagement.
