Newry and Armagh MLA Justin McNulty has pressed Health Minister Robin Swan for progress on plans for the proposed Health Hub in Newry which is seven years in the planning.

Mr McNulty said, ‘Newry is in dire need of investment in its Primary Health Care facilities and I am delighted planning approval was secured just before Christmas for a new Health Hub on the former playing fields at the Abbey primary and grammar schools. This is a much needed facility for the people of Newry and I look forward to the building being completed.’

‘The project was first announced almost seven years ago by the then Health Minister Edwin Poots MLA and I am constantly being asked when works will commence on site. This week I sought an update from the Minister for Health Robin Swan. The Minister has advised that now that Planning Permission has been secured for the project the final business case will be submitted to the Department seeking the final nod of approval.’

‘I have sought further clarity as to when works are expected to commence on site and I hope the Minister will be able to confirm those details in due course. It’s imperative that there is a real impetus put behind this project so construction can commence on site as soon as possible.’

‘The Health Hub for Newry is a major investment in Primary Health Care in the City. The hub will complement existing facilities in Daisy Hill and the community. I look forward to Newry getting the health facilities the city deserves.’
