Councillor Declan Murphy has praises the efforts of all involved in a new initiative which will provide facilities for families to enjoy the full extent of what Derrymore Woods in Bessbrook has to offer.

It is hoped that by November a range of trails and pathways, new signage, picnic benches, carparks and a play area for both junior play and toddler play will all be in place.

The Slieve Gullion Councillor said “I am delighted to welcome the commencement of the new scheme in the Derramor Estate to provide facilities for families to enjoy the full extent of what Derramor woods has to offer.

"This is a ground up project where ideas on how to make this area more accessible and family friendly are coming to fruition.

"I would like to commend, ‘Friends of Derramor’ in particular, for initiating and driving this project and for the National Trust, Council officials and Councillor Roisin Mulgrew for helping to bring it to this stage”.

The play area will use natural materials in keeping with the character of the historic demesne and in consideration of the natural environment.
