The first awards ceremony of its kind in Newry will recognise and celebrate the positive impact of five years of the Pride In Newry Festival & Parade, 2012 – 2016, on the LGB&T community in Newry City and across Newry, Mourne and Down District.

These Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals, groups and organisations that have made a difference to the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people over the past five years.

Damian McKevitt, Secretary of the NRC commented "We want to showcase some of the great work and people that have; over this time, greatly increased the visibility, raised awareness and helped to portray LGB&T people in a positive way, breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes and at the same time promoting a City & District that truly recognises and values diversity.

Mr McKevitt concluded "In order for the best event possible, we need the support from local businesses as we have always received."
