SPACE charity is launching The Good Space retail store at it's new premises at 7 Marcus Square, Newry 23 May.

As part of one of its programmes, the enterprise has designed its own line of luxury candles, Acorn Soy Wax candles. The Good Space will also offer a budget range of unique Sassy Soy Candles. Choose from Unicorn Farts, Freshly Signed Divorced Papers or a Sassy Classy and a Bit Smarty Assy candle.

In 2014 they opened a charity shop Love Your Space on Monaghan Street, Newry to generate additional income to support their work with families. The shop is run by staff and volunteers.

As a result of the positive response from volunteers with additional needs, in a few short years SPACE has become known among disability organisations as providing supportive and nurturing volunteer placements/work experience for people with additional needs, working in partnership with Mencap, Disability Action, Cedar Foundation and Clanrye to provide supportive training and developing opportunities for people with additional needs.

Project Officer, Tara McAteer said “We’re really excited to launch this initiative in the Newry area.  There are many disabled individuals who need our support.  As a social economy initiative, all profits will be re-invested into community initiatives. The Good Space Retail Store will also sell social enterprise products from all over Northern Ireland and the UK"

Local businesses can support the initiative by ordering candles as corporate gifts. hiring meeting room space or taking part in forthcoming workshops and events. Local pharmacies, gift shops and other businesses can support this initiative by stocking Acorn and Sassy Soy candles for sale in their own premises.

The charity will also be home to a range of products and gifts produced in Ireland and the UK by various social economy businesses whose work centres on doing social good.  Retailers whose products will be available for purchase include Lurgan based luggage manufacturer, Madlug, who donate one bag to a child in care every time one of their products is purchased.

The Charity's long-term vision is to provide a sustainable self-funding enterprise that will benefit vulnerable members of our community and become an asset to the wider community.
