Report:

Thomas Davis GFC  0-12   Lannleire  2-7

Thomas Davis commenced their 2014 campaign with an  encouraging display against  County Louth  side Lannleire from the village of Dunleer in Co. Louth on a cold but crisp Sunday evening at the St. Colman’s College venue. It was a relatively young Thomas  Davis side with  last year’s minors , Deaghlan Jennings , Jordan King, Conor Loye  and Jamie Murphy all starting. With a midfield partnership of Ryan McWilliams and David Lenaghan controlling  the early exchanges  leaving  the score   0-7 to 0-4 in favour of the Newry men at half time. Initial scores coming from Jordan King, David Lenaghan and  Liam Quinn. On the resumption the Louth side introduced some fresh faces with their substitutions making an immediate impact with scores ,to  leave the score 2-7 to 0-10. Thomas Davis rallied and some good work by James Dinsmore and Danny Cinnamond resulted in L. Quinn and J. King reducing the score to the minimum at the finish 2-7 to 0-12. The match also witnessed the long awaited senior debut of Declan Loye who replaced the ever youthful Adrian McCourt on 50mins.  Thomas Davis would like to thank referee Frank Mc Donald for his excellent officiating.

Thomas Davis: Karl Kimmins, Sean Bradley, John McIlroy, Conor Loye, Deaghlan Jennings, James Dinsmore, Stevie Trainor, David Lenaghan, Ryan McWilliams, Danny Cinnamond, Jordan King, Jamie Murphy, Liam Quinn, Neil Markey, Adrian McCourt, Subs:- Nathan  Burns, Brendan McKinley, Declan Loye

Scores: L. Quinn 0-5,  J. King 0-4, D. Cinnamond 0-2,  D. Lenaghan 0-1

Thomas Davis 0-10 v Lissummon 2-08

The senior team took part in their second pre season challenge match on Sunday past against intermediate side Lissummon. The first half proved to be a very tight affair with both sides limited to very few scoring opportunities. As half time approached Lissummon did manage to create two goal scoring chances but were denied by a superb block from full back John McIllroy as well as a wonderful save from young goalkeeper David Hankin. At half time we led 0-03 to 0-02, with our scores coming from Danny Cinnamond, Ryan McWilliams and Adrian McCourt.

Both sides made changes at half time and they certainly made an impact, with the second half proving a much more open affair than the first. Unfortunately Lissummon got off to the perfect start in the 2nd half when they breached our defence for a well taken goal, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish for the rest of the match. To their credit however the Thomas Davis lads continued to play some good football, with Cathal Trainor very much to the fore with two superb points. We were also unlucky not to have several goals, with Danny Cinnamond going close on one occasion, as well as having another goal disallowed as it was called back for a free kick which was duly converted by Liam Quinn. As we chased the game Lissummon managed to score a second goal near the end which sealed the game in their favour.

All in all this was a good run out for the senior team against opposition from a higher level than ourselves. The game also marked the welcome return of Chrissy Hanratty to the senior fold after an absence of four years, and from watching his performance it was like he’d never been away. There were also encouraging performances from John McIllroy, Conor Loye, David Hankin and half time substitute Jamie Murphy.

Team: D. Hankin, S. Bradley, J. McIllroy, R. McLoughlin, C. Hanratty, J. Dinsmore, C. Loye, D. Lenaghan, R. McWIlliams, A. McCourt, D. Cinnamond, S. Trainor, P. Smyth, N. Markey, N. Burns

Subs: D. Murphy, D. Jennings, C. Trainor, P. Finnegan. K. Kimmins, J. King, L. Quinn, J. Murphy.

Scorers:
