Members of Unite the Union Newry Branch recently visited the new Newry Rainbow Community Drop in Centre at 28a Monaghan Street in Newry to present a cheque to the NRC to help towards their annual Pride in Newry Parade and Festival that takes place this year on Saturday the 22nd of August with events also happening in the week leading up to the 22nd.

NRC member Damian Mc Shane who is lgb&t and equality officer for Unite in the Community welcomed the contribution and participation of Unite trade Unionists in the forthcoming Pride in Newry festival week. Commenting Damian said “Unite look forward to this years events and parade and wholeheartedly support this years theme of Marriage Equality. We urge all members to continue to support the Newry Rainbow Community and the Pride in Newry team as they continue to raise awareness around LGB&T issues.”

Ronan Turley from Unite also added “Unite the union are supporting equality issues and supporting the LGBT community and we are very happy to promote the Pride parade in Newry to our members and to all others in the workforce. We look forward to taking part in the parade in August.”

NRC Chairperson Rory Rafferty thanked Unite for their contribution which will help in no small manner to make sure this years Pride in Newry is the best yet!
