Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the report of a robbery in Altnaveigh Park, Newry on Saturday, 21 December which left a woman needing hospital treatment.

At approximately 2.15am as the woman was out in her back garden she was confronted by three unknown men.  One of them grabbed her by the arm and forced her back into her house.  They stole £150 that she had for Christmas. They then demanded more money from her, as she had no more she was hit around the head and legs with what is believed to be a metal object.

Police added that the woman received hospital treatment for her injuries.  

Detective Constable McKeever said: “This was a contemptable act of violence against an innocent woman, who has been left extremely traumatised by her ordeal.  

“Did you see or hear anything out of the ordinary around 2.15am on Saturday morning?  If you did, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, please contact detectives at Newry on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 768 21/12/19.  Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
