Nearly 100 families have now received the keys to their new homes in the latest large scale housing development in Newry.  The £35.7m housing scheme at Craigmore View is still being developed by Apex Housing Association (Apex) and the site will eventually see a total of 255 homes completed close to McCann's Corner/ Fiveways in the city.

New residents Lisa and Richard Winters recently moved into their three-bedroom house in Craigmore View.  Lisa says the spacious layout is ideal for her four sons, while also providing her husband with greater independence:

“Richard has MS and uses a wheelchair occasionally.  He now has the space to move through our home, giving him so much more independence.  In our last house, we were living on top of one another.  Now we have space for us to enjoy as a family.  We’re delighted to be here.”

Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex Housing Association, believes cuts to funding for the provision of social housing need to be reversed, to address the substantial and increasing demand for social housing throughout Northern Ireland.

Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex, commented: “As we near the completion of the 100th home at Craigmore View, it’s important to acknowledge the very positive impact these new social homes are having on the lives of individuals and families.  It is also crucial going forward, that the cuts to funding for the provision of social housing are reversed, if we are to address the substantial and increasing demand for social housing throughout Northern Ireland.”

Craigmore View is a £35.7million development, supported by £19.7million Housing Association Grant funding from the Department for Communities with £16million of private finance provided by Apex.
