On a beautiful spring morning around 800 pupils from Our Lady's Grammar School took part in todays May Procession in the magnificent grounds of the Convent of Mercy in Catherine Street, Newry.
The procession is a tradition that has taken place since the school opened in 1887.
Principal, Ms Geraldine Pettigrew led the pupils in prayers and song as school class representatives Megan Magill, Sinead O'Hagan, Eimear McCaul, Catherine Conway, Niamh McCarthy and Sarah Heatley carried around a statue of Our Lady before Head Girl Sarah Heatley crowned a Statue in the Convent grounds with a crown of Cherry Blossom.
Ann McAteer nostalgically watched the procession wind it's way around the gardens for the first time in over 40 years bringing back memories of her last time there in 1970.
After songs a procession took place to the graveyard in the grounds where deceased members of the Sisters of Mercy who founded the school were remembered.
