Banbridge-based Lotus Homes hasannounced the submission of a Pre-Application Notice (PAN) to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for a significant new housing development at Doran’s Hill in Newry.
The proposed development will feature 200 residential units, maintaining much of the original layout approved by the site’s previous owners. While the overall plan remains largely unchanged, some adjustments to house types have been introduced. Lotus Homes is preparing to submit an application for ‘Phase One’, consisting of 24 homes, to commence construction in the near future.
Paul O’Rourke of Lotus Homes expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We are delighted to bring these essential, high-quality, and affordable homes to the Newry area. Our recent development at Hillcrest Village in Bessbrook was very well received by the local community, and we hope to see similar success at Doran’s Hill.”
Recognising the long-standing community engagement associated with the Doran’s Hill site, O’Rourke emphasised that Lotus Homes intends to build on these efforts. “A lot of engagement with the local community has taken place over the years regarding this site, and we are committed to continuing that. We will be holding a community engagement session in October, giving local residents and stakeholders the chance to learn more about the development and share their views.”
He added, “We are hopeful that with a positive response from the Planning Service to the proposed amendments, we will begin ‘Phase One’ by early 2025. The entire development is expected to take around five years to complete, and it includes the construction of a new spine route through the site. This road will replace part of Watson’s Road, providing a significant improvement in road safety.”
