A 21 year old man has lost his life following a road incident involving a pedestrian and a lorry on the NI this morning, Tuesday 7 June. The incident happened between the border and the Jonesborough junction just after Midnight. The road remained closed overnight but has since reopened.
Newry and Armagh MLA Liz Kimmins has extended her condolences to the family of the man
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of a man in a traffic collision on the A1 outside Newry. This is heart-breaking news for the man’s family, friends, loved ones and the wider community.
“I want to extend my deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of the man and offer them my full support."
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
Fellow Newry & Armagh MLA Justin McNulty also offered his condolences “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man who lost his life on the Belfast to Dublin road in the early hours of Tuesday. Losing a loved one is always difficult, but it is truly tragic that a young life has been cut short in these circumstances. The impact of this death will be felt by people on both sides of the border and everyone who regularly travels this road.
“I would ask any witnesses to this incident to come forward to Gardaí as soon as possible and help them with their investigation. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone travelling the N1 road between midnight and 00:30am who may have dashcam footage.”
