Musician Tommy Fleming played an absolutely classic concert tonight at Saint Brigid's Chapel in The Meadow. Acoustics may not be the chapels speciality but ultimately the ambience and atmosphere were what made it so special.
The event organised by the local branch of the Knights of Saint Columbanus to raise funds for the St Brigid's Restoration Fund was an extremely unique occasion which will be fondly remembered for many years to come.
The packed 'Congregation' were treated to a classic performance by Fleming who tragically suffered the loss of both his parents on the same day, just three weeks ago. A poignant memorial certainly but it was much more than that. As the shadows danced around the walls and his voice echoed through the rafters, it was simply impossible not to be moved by the spirit of the occasion.
From classics such as Isle of Hope Isle of Tears, U2's All I want is You, Sara McLachlan's Angel to the tragically depressing but brilliant Christmas 1915, every one was a stunning rendition.
His version of the overplayed, done to death Danny Boy was just outstanding with every note journeying to the roof and back and resonating throughout the building.
Well done to all involved for taking the chance and producing such a brilliant event.
