Members of the Autism Families Community Support Group took part in a Mourne Wall Challenge today to raise much needed funds for the group. The trek covered almost 21 miles.
Group Chairperson Colin Boyle who has 13 year old twins on the autism spectrum explains "Our charity provides monthly club meetings for our members children. At these clubs we provide many activities, usually sensory based, for our kids. Unfortunately this sensory equipment can be very expensive so our club depends heavily on fund raising to provide for all our members. We also have frequent club outings to various places including days out at the zoo, pantomimes, petting farms, relaxed cinema viewings, and many many more wonderful activities in the surrounding area. These activities are heavily funded by ourselves so it enables many families to have wonderful days out with their children.
"Our children can also develop social skills to build and maintain friendships. The group continually strives to raise positive autism awareness, working closely with the wider community."
The group is based in the Newry/Bessbrook/Camlough Area but they cover all of the Newry, Mourne and Down council area.
