Write a commentA "Bags of Hope" event to raise awareness of and support women and families who have experienced or are experiencing birth trauma and/or peri-natal mood changes or anxiety, mental health issues is being held in Newry on Thursday 9 November at 7pm in Finegan and Son, Newry.
The 'Bags of Hope' event organised by Newry group Centred Soul will have a brief talk from Rosemary McGuigan around her own experiences, followed by well known Northern Ireland Blogger Lindsay Robinson, of 'Have you seen that girl?' who campaigns for greater mental health support, having experienced PND herself. There will also be a performance by The Mum Chorus - a choir established by Maeve Brisk, a mother of two who also experienced PND with both children.
100 'Bags of Hope' have also been donated to the event for women to take home. Each bag contains items specially chosen to support women and families.
Centred Soul is a not-for-profit organisation, based in Newry, founded by Rosemary McGuigan. Rosemary's background is in Social Work, working with children & families, adults with mental health issues & learning needs.
Centred Soul is all about working with families, with a particular focus on keeping ourselves 'centred' and well during pregnancy, following the birth of our babies and when tackling the everyday ups & downs of family life.
The group offers classes and workshops for new parents and babies, as well as a support group, called 'Moaning Mummies' and within the next few months we will be establishing a support network for those who have experienced birth trauma and/or peri-natal issues.
