Local Councillor Sinn Féin's Liz Kimmins had a meeting with residents and David Ewing from Roads Service in September regarding the possible implementation of a one way system in the first and second streets in Barcroft. Commenting on the present state of play the Councillor said "Following this, I carried out a full consultation of the residents living in these two streets and a survey was distributed to all houses and residents were asked to indicate their preference. I have forwarded the responses to Roads Service who have highlighted the next stages of the process"
Three options were given and the results were Option 1 - one way in a clockwise direction -76.9%;
Option 2 - one way in an anti-clockwise direction - 11.5%
Option 3 - No change - 9.8%
1.8% had no preference
Following the responses the PSNI have been contacted regarding the enforcement of a one way system and roads service are currently awaiting their response. If PSNI are happy with this, Roads Service will then have to formally advertise this and address any objections that may arise. Legislation will then have to be prepared and the final part would be signage.
The local Sinn Féin elected representative concluded by stating "Overall Roads Service believe the completion of this process may take up to 12 months. Anyone wishing further information about this issue can feel free to contact myself".
