Following the success of programmes 'Our Weddings' and 'A Northern Irish Christmas', Belfast based TV production company Afro-Mic Productions is making another nostalgic, feel-good documentary for BBC Northern Ireland - this time viewers will be entertained with stories of our most memorable holidays.
This latest episode will celebrate everything we love about holidays from the past sixty years, whether in the sun, on the slopes, exploring far flung exotic destinations or enjoying Northern Ireland’s favourite seaside spots.
With more time on our hands, many of us may be sorting through the family archives - dusting off videos and photo albums and reminiscing about the cherished memories they hold. The production team want to hear from couples, families and friends of all ages who may be willing to dig out their home movies and share stories of some of their most treasured holiday memories. Perhaps you have taken a once in a lifetime trip, had a first-class honeymoon, embarked on a life-changing backpacking adventure, crossed items off your bucket list or spent childhood holidays caravanning on the Northern Irish coast. The documentary will also reminisce on changing trends throughout the decades – the first package holidays out of Aldergrove Airport in 1969, the launch of Club 18-30, hitting the ski slopes in the 80s or even the dancefloor in Ibiza in the 90s!
The filming process is very straightforward. Filming is done in the comfort of the contributors’ own homes, through a contactless filming process as the production company abide to strict, covid safe filming regulations. Producer Kerry Reid said: “people and their stories are always at the heart of these programmes and it’s a privilege for us to be able to bring untold stories to our TV screens, alongside treasured footage and photographs. This is a wonderful opportunity to re-live some of the happiest holiday memories of our lives and we really want people who are at home to have fun with it, both on and off screen!”
With holidays on hold at the moment, the documentary will be the ultimate in armchair travel - evoking the excitement and anticipation of going on holiday, by taking viewers on a fun filled trip without leaving home.
