A Bike Run on Saturday that took in all nine counties of Ulster has already raised a fantastic £2000 for the Southern Area Hospice, with some more money still to come in.

Organiser, Felim Lally is originally from Newry but now lives in Worcestershire and travels back to Newry as often as he can. This time he thought, why not catch up with a few friends for a bike run and raise some much needed funds at the same time for the Southern Area Hospice.

Felim caught up with about 50 biking friends and the gang were hosted by Fiveways in their car park on Saturday morning and around 10.30 just as the weather began to clear they left for their trip hoping to make it to the Fermanagh/ Donegal border for Lunch. Despite the cold day it was a resounding success.

As Felim said "If the weather's kind to us we will leave here and do a tour of the nine counties of the province and we will also have raised some money. But more importantly we get to catch up with all the friends I haven't seen in years.

Felim explained the route went from Newry "up through Belfast and across to Tobermore to come down through the Sperrins. In Beleek hopefully for lunch which is probably a sandwich out of a filling station and then home through Bellturbet, Monaghan, and home that way so we've gone through Cavan and Monaghan as well and back to Newry."

They were hoping to be able to end the night with a pint but with cosy warm bars being unavailable at present and only an option of an outside beer garden he adds "It depends what shape we are in when we get back. Maybe a hot bath might be better than a beer."
