Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan has called on the Health Minister to make full delivery of the Autism Strategy an urgent priority.
Boylan chairs the All Party Group (APG) on Autism and made his comments after welcoming Independent Autism Reviewer Ema Cubitt to its latest meeting. Ms Cubitt presented the findings of her latest report to the group.
Mr Boylan said: “As Chair of the Autism APG, I welcomed Independent Autism Reviewer Ema Cubitt to present the findings of her latest report.
“Right across the north, children and adults with autism are being let down by inaccessible services, a lack of understanding and the failure to fully implement autism legislation.”
He said the Minister needed to act on the strategy.
“The Health Minister must make full delivery of the Autism Strategy an urgent priority.”
The Newry and Armagh MLA said he has invited Ms Cubitt back to provide further evidence.
“I have invited Ema back to provide further evidence, and we will continue working with her to challenge these failures, remove barriers and demand delivery.
“Our autism community deserves better.”
