Write a commentSlieve Gullion Councillor Pete Byrne has welcomed the news that the current speeding limit in Culloville will undergo a further review by the Department for Infrastructure.
Residents have long campaigned for a reduction from 40mph to 30mph due to longstanding speeding issues through the village.
Cllr Byrne said, “Earlier this year, I welcomed the significant progress that was made in relation to implementing new traffic calming measures in Culloville. This was following concerns raised by residents who over the years have repeatedly asked for more to be done to ensure the safety of their children.
“We have already seen new signage erected in the village and new road markings to help warn drivers to slow down. I was however disappointed to learn that the village at the time didn’t meet the requirements for a reduction in speed limit. I am pleased to learn that DfI are committed to reviewing this decision.”
The Slieve Gullion representative concluded “This will bring some hope to residents who have raised this numerous times over the years. I have always been aware of the constraints on budgets and the various criteria that are applied to roads which could potentially rule out measures being put in place but that is simply not good enough when we are talking about the safety of children. I will update residents once this review is complete but I’m hopeful sense will prevail."
