Following last weeks visit to Narrow Water by Ministers Nichola Mallon and Darragh O'Brien, South Down MLA, Chris Hazzard MP has called on Taoiseach Michéal Martin to “prioritise” the delivery of the Narrow Water Bridge Project. Both Ministers met with local stakeholders and other political representatives.
Mr Hazzard said “The Taoiseach must mobilise all available resources to deliver the Narrow Water Bridge project as a priority; there can be no more delay.
“I welcome the fact that Louth County Council will now perform due diligence on the previous planning permissions to ascertain if we can move quickly to tendering on the same basis as before.
“Hopefully this process will be speedy and will demonstrate that the political will exists to move as quickly as possible to construction.
“The Dublin Government talk about the benefit of a ‘shared island unit’ - well if there is to be any tangible benefit of such a unit it will be measured by the delivery of projects such as the Narrow Water Bridge.
“The local community in north Louth and south Down have been waiting decades for this project, there is no need for any more delay - let’s get it built now.”
