News that the ABC Council has signed a contract with SG Construction and Plant Hire Ltd, in relation to bridge replacement works at Dromore Park, has prompted Alderman Gareth Wilson to request swift intervention to fix a currently-closed bridge at Clare Glen near Tandragee.
The public representative for Cusher DEA remarked at a monthly meeting of the local authority, on April 29.
“With regards to the bridge replacement works at Dromore Park, when I saw that and saw the dates associated with it, I sort of got concerned in terms of Clare Glen,” he said.
“We’re waiting on important works to the bridge replacement in Clare Glen, and basically I’d be keen, if possible, [at] our next Leisure Services meeting if we could get some costings.
“It seems to be floating about in the ether and a number of people raised it with me yesterday in Armagh, just about the progress on the bridge, because a number of people who use the park are really disenfranchised, with the longer walk they have to take in order to get back to their vehicles, and the bridge was an important part in that whole process.
“So it was really just to see if we could tie down some detail really, and in fact if some comms could be done on it, just for public consumption, I think it would be really useful because I know there is just a sign on the bridge saying it’s closed, but people are keen to see it move forward.
“I know there’s cost implications. Well, if that’s explained to people, I think they’ll be more readily accepting of the process that we’re going to have to be going down, but it was just to see that made clear to people.”
ABC Lord Mayor, Alderman Margaret Tinsley, concurred with her party colleague: “I totally concur, Alderman Wilson, that’s been going on a long time.
“Jonathan [Hayes, director of Environmental Services and Sustainability] has given me the thumbs up that that’ll be coming to Leisure Services, with an update on where we are with that.”
