A Slieve Gullion Local Government Election candidate is calling for Newry Mourne and Down District Council to expand access and extend opening hours at the Quarter Road Recycling Centre in Camlough.
Killian Feehan, SDLP said: “I have received a number of complaints from local residents about challenges in accessing the Recycling Centre on the Quarter Road. A 4pm closing time, coupled with the fact that vans and trailers are unable to access the site without pre-booking is causing great frustration, and is resulting in fly tipping along the Quarter Road.
“Justin McNulty and I have submitted a request to the Council’s Chief Executive for extended opening hours at the Recycling Centre and for the introduction of a provision to receive vans and trailers without the need to pre-book.
“Farmers are at their wits end with fly tipping in the area, and by introducing some simple measures to improve access to the Recycling Centre, the Council could solve this problem. This is an essential service for local people, funded by ratepayers, and it needs to be accessible to everyone who needs it."
